Q. How do I get to Piel Island?

A. Train station: Roose (4 miles from Roa Island) – Barrow-in-Furness to Lancaster line. Car: Enter the postcode LA13 0QN on your Sat Nav which will take you to Roa Island where you can catch the ferry. There is a free car park situated by Roa Island Boat Club.

Q. What time does the ferry run and how much does it cost?

A. In high season (April to Sept), the ferry runs backwards and forwards daily Monday to Sunday 11am – 4.30pm (weather permitting) and costs £6.00 return per adult, £4.00 return per child and under 4’s are free. If you are unsure please call Paul on 07798 794550.

Q. What are the pub opening times and does it sell food?

A. From April to Sept, during school holidays and bank holidays, the pub is open Tuesdays – Sunday 11am – 11:30pm . We do not currently serve food however this is something we are looking into so keep on checking back on our website for news.

Q. Can I camp on the Island?

A. Yes you can. Camping is £5.00 per tent per night. Parties over 5 are to call to pre book. Please call at the bar on arrival to book on.  Piel Island is a S.S.S.I (Site of Special Scientific Interest) so you must adhere to general guidelines. Disposable bbq’s are to be at least 12” off the ground so as not the damage the grass. You are not allowed campfires on the Island or beach. There are outside toilets on the island which are not locked at night but remember to bring a torch as there is no electricity on the Island. All campers must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Camper vans or trailer tents cannot be brought onto the Island as there is no vehicular access.

Q. Are dogs allowed on the Island and in the Pub?

A. Dogs are allowed on the Island but must be kept on a lead AT ALL TIMES to protect our wildlife. Well behaved dogs are allowed in the pub but again must be kept on a lead at all times.
